We woke at 8;30 to a nice day. It has been getting colder, jeans and coat weather now.
It is an uneventful trip, Mark and I are both burnt out, and Mark more so for the amount of miles he has done. A big thanks to Mark for driving, he could have gone home but he kept his commitment.
A nice trip past the sand dunes and we say goodbye to the Pacific Ocean for now. It is a nice 2 hour drive to Portland where we find a Comp USA, no sales tax!
Portland is always under construction, it is a city on the move. We can arrive at the Roseland at 3pm and talk to Henry (Cotton Tech) for about 20 minutes. He is always entertaining to talk to. Meet Mike, (Johnny’s drum tech) He has been reading our blogs and wanted to meet us. Rickey looks board, we contemplate on making a disturbance to give him something to do, but we leave looking for someplace to eat. We finally find the Thirsty Lion and have a couple of beers and a burger.
New above grade rapid transit system being built here, Vancouver should take a lesson from Portland.
We meet another taper Josh, that does audio and video. It is his first time taping the Hip, and I will be grabbing his footage for a future DVD.
Mark is dead center running 2 cameras. I am on the left and Josh is on the floor.
Cotton tech talks to me before the show and says ‘So you guys think I have a Heart!’ I guess he is reading our blogs now. He is a funny guy!
Sadies go on at 8, standard set except they bring a trumpet player on stage to help with a song. Over all they had a strong set.
The Hip take the stage just after 9, and the first 9 songs are the same as the previous night, arrrggg. Then during Meridian I hear a saxophone. From where I am sitting I can not see anyone else on the stage, but wow . The saxophone really added a new dimension to the rest of the set! I will have to wait to see Mark’s angle so I can see where the saxophone player was.
